Overview
The NY Hypnosis & Laser Center holds exclusive rights to the copyrighted “M.A.H. Method". This Smoking Cessation Program has been used for over 5 years on the East Coast (NYC, L.I., NJ and CT) with hundreds of people successfully getting rid of the smoking habit completely and permanently. Over 98% of them needed only one session. The other 2% needed some reinforcement sessions which although it isn't the norm, might be between two and four sessions to successfully overcome the smoking habit.
Hypnosis helps you get rid of the smoking habit and also helps eliminate the desire and craving for cigarettes, pipes, and cigars and the same techniques have been successful in stopping substance abuse such as marijuana. In addition it aids in strengthening your self confidence, self esteem and self control.
How will I feel after a hypnotic session?
Many people wonder if they will experience withdrawal symptoms or gain weight when they quit smoking through hypnosis. Some even wonder if they will be more nervous or uptight. It is surprising, but most people discovered that the effects they experienced were all good effects. It is very rare that they experience unbearable withdrawal symptoms and seldom do they gain weight. In fact, since our process also takes in consideration other cravings, some clients who were overweight even found themselves losing weight automatically. Instead of being nervous or uptight, they usually discover they are calmer and relaxed as they go about their daily activities.
Will I ever smoke again?
Hypnosis does not make it impossible for you to smoke. It helps you get rid of the desire and craving for cigarettes. If you decide at some time in the future that you want to smoke, you would be able to do so. However, it is very rare that a person would decide to start smoking again after successfully getting rid of the smoking habit. You will begin to feel so much better with clear lungs and vibrant health that it is doubtful you would ever decide to smoke again.
How does "The M.A.H. Method" work?
Many misconceptions exist about hypnosis, and much of this comes from what we see in movies and on television. You must remember that the directors of those movies and television programs are trying to entertain people, rather than inform them about the subject of hypnosis. This results in people developing false impressions and total misunderstandings about hypnosis. You are never out of control. You are never under some sort of zombie-like unconscious spell, in fact you are totally IN control at all times, and are totally aware of what is happening around you the entire time.
A smoker may consciously want to quit smoking. They don't like the terrible smell. They don't like the way it affects their health. They don't like burning holes in their clothes and furnishings, and they certainly don't like watching their money go up in smoke. Yet they continue smoking in spite of their many reasons for wanting to quit. These people are unable to quit because they are being controlled by thoughts, imprints and impressions, which exist in their subconscious minds. The conscious level of the mind can be used to reason and think, but it cannot over rule the control of the subconscious mind that has been programmed by thoughts, imprints, and impressions, that the conscious level of the mind is not even aware of.
The "M.A.H. Method" gives your subconscious mind the suggestions and instructions it needs to change and clear out all of those thoughts, imprints and impressions, which are currently causing you to smoke. This is one of the main reasons why hypnosis can be so powerful in helping people overcome the smoking habit permanently.
Once a person has been guided into a hypnotic state, the subconscious level of the mind becomes much more susceptible to suggestions. The person is completely aware of what the therapist is saying, and the suggestions given by the therapist are received by the subconscious mind, and have a powerful and profound effect in releasing those thoughts, imprints and impressions that have been causing the problem.
Unless the subconscious mind is changed, the smoking habit continues to dominate the person. Normal willpower can only dent the surface temporarily. Hypnosis can permanently change the subconscious mind, so you will never want to smoke again.

Your subconscious mind will also be given suggestions
- To keep you calm and relaxed as you go about your normal daily activities, so you will not stress as a result of not smoking.
- Not to substitute food for cigarettes so you will not put on any excess weight as a result of not smoking.
- To cope with the situation of being around other smokers.
- Strategies to deal with any residual withdrawal symptoms or cravings.
As a result of the hypnotic process your cravings and withdrawal symptoms tend to reduce by between 70% and 100%. Some may still experience a tiny bit of residual withdrawal symptoms, however your subconscious mind will receive strategies for dealing with any residual cravings, so that as soon as the strategy is put in place, the craving disappears very quickly. The actual session it self is very positive and uplifting, and you will feel wonderful to finally be a non-smoker. Rather than being cranky and moody, you will feel terrific about not smoking. You can get rid of the smoking habit permanently and completely utilizing "The M.A.H. Method" than by any other method being used today, and in over 95% of cases it only takes one session to permanently overcome the smoking habit.

Things you should definitely know about smoking
What is tobacco?
Tobacco is made from the dried leaves of the tobacco plant. Tobacco smoke is a mixture of almost 4,000 different chemical compounds, including nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide, acetone, ammonia and hydrogen cyanide. Forty-three of these chemicals have been proven to be carcinogenic (causing cancer).
Tobacco is ingested through smoking cigarettes, pipes and cigars. In the form of a fine powder, it may also be sniffed as snuff, or it is sometimes sold in blocks to be chewed. It can also be ingested through passive smoking. Cigarettes account for approximately 98% of tobacco consumed in Australia.
Nicotine
Nicotine is a poison. Swallowing a small amount of pure nicotine can kill an adult. Nicotine is the stimulant drug in tobacco smoke that causes dependency, as it is highly addictive, both physically and mentally. A key brain chemical involved in mediating the desire to consume drugs is the neurotransmitter dopamine, and research has shown that nicotine increases the levels of dopamine in the part of the brain that regulates feelings of pleasure. This is an important reason why nicotine is so addictive.
Many smokers believe smoking calms their nerves. However, smoking releases epinephrine, a hormone that creates physiological stress in the smoker, rather than relaxation. The addictive quality of the nicotine contained in the cigarette makes the user smoke more to calm down, when in fact the smoking itself is causing the agitation.
Tar
Tar is released when a cigarette burns. It is the main cause of lung and throat cancer in smokers, and it also aggravates bronchial and respiratory disease. A smoker who smokes one packet a day, inhales more than half a cup of tar from cigarettes each year.
Carbon Monoxide
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless and very toxic gas, which is taken up more readily by the lungs than oxygen. A high level of carbon monoxide in the blood is typical of smokers and, together with nicotine, increases the risk of heart disease, hardening of the arteries and other circulatory problems.
What are the problems associated with tobacco smoking?
Tobacco smoking is the single largest preventable cause of death and illness in Australia, responsible for over 19,000 deaths each year, and many more disabilities. The ill health effects associated with long-term tobacco smoking include lung disease, such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema; heart disease; stroke; cancer of the mouth, larynx, pharynx, esophagus, lungs, pancreas, cervix, uterus and bladder; peripheral vascular disease due to decreased blood flow to the legs; and reduced fertility in both men and women. One in two long-term smokers die from diseases caused by smoking. Half of these premature deaths occur in middle age, with an average loss of 23 years of life.
Skin changes: It also takes a toll on our skin. Smoking ages the skin, reduces the elasticity and causes pre-mature wrinkles. Once you stop smoking you body will begin to repair itself from the inside. So go one step further and allow yourself the luxury of seeing immediate results on the outside also.(Spas, which deal with skin problems caused by many different medical issues — including smoking — are being developed.
An example of this type of Spa can be found at: www.centerforbeautifulskin.com)
In 1998, the National Drug Strategy Household Survey showed that tobacco smoking remained the leading cause of drug-related hospital episodes in Australia, with 142,525 (71%) episodes in 1997–98. The main tobacco-related illnesses requiring hospitalization were cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and ischemic heart disease.
What are the benefits of quitting smoking?
Stopping smoking at any age gives immediate benefits for men and women of all ages. Quitting allows the body to repair itself. Some of the immediate benefits of quitting include:
- Within one week of quitting nicotine and carbon monoxide leave the body’s system, and the lungs begin to work more efficiently.
- Taste buds come alive and sense of smell improves breath, hair, fingers, teeth and clothes look and smell cleaner.
- Within a month blood pressure returns to its normal level, and the immune system begins to show signs of recovery.
- Within three months, blood flow to the hands and feet improves.
- After twelve months the risk of cancer and heart disease is reduced the incidence and progression of lung disease is reduced.
How may quitting smoking affect the body?
A person who is dependent on cigarettes may find that they experience withdrawal symptoms when they cut down or stop smoking cigarettes. The short-term effects of quitting smoking may include:
- Increased nervousness and tension
- Agitation
- Psychological symptoms, such as mood swings and lack of concentration
- Changes to sleep patterns
- Headaches
- Coughs
- Cravings
Research has shown that the majority of addicted smokers would like to quit smoking. In 1998, the National Drug Household Survey reported that more than one in three (33%) smokers had unsuccessfully attempted to quit smoking, while a similar proportion (32%) had changed to a cigarette brand with a lower tar or nicotine content. Almost one in five (19%) smokers had successfully given up for more than one month during the previous year, while 43% had reduced their daily cigarette consumption.

You CAN stop smoking
By Using Hypnosis--Without Gaining Weight!
You can stop smoking for good. I am successful if my clients become non-smokers. I know smoking cessation and regularly receive referrals from local physicians! Thousands and thousands of people across the country have quit smoking using hypnosis. For one-on-one hypnosis sessions call us today.
Here is how it works. You will come in and review information about our hypnosis program. You will then meet with Mari Lifrieri (Las Vegas area) or Michael Anthony (Mount Vernon, NY & Bayonne, NJ areas) who will learn personally about your smoking habit and discuss why you want to quit. Michael Anthony Hurley worked over the last five years developing a new and innovative smoking cessation program in conjunction with Mari Lifrieri.
There is a small percentage, about 10 percent that will require more sessions to quit smoking. For that small percentage that needs more help, we are there for them, too.
You don't have to gain weight because you quit smoking! Follow our plan and you may even lose weight. Our educative component helps you to replace the smoking habit with good positive behaviors. These good behaviors help you to take advantage of the time you used to spend smoking. If you now smoke 30 cigarettes a day and spend about 5 minutes on each cigarette that equals about 150 minutes, or 2 1/2 hours a day smoking. You need to plan for that time. If you don't, you will tend to gain weight.

Testimonials about the efficacy of the M.A.H. Method
"Before I had the session I used to smoke an average of three packs per day. I had to take a break every hour at work to my boss’s consternation and often awoke in the middle of the night having to go downstairs 2-3 times into my kitchen to have a cigarette.
I had my session in September 2002, and since that time I have not found it necessary to have a cigarette nor had any craving for one.
When I went to have my session, I didn't know what to suspect. I thought I would be comatose and under the hypnotist's spell, just like in the movies. Instead what I found was that the hypnotist spoke to my subconscious mind and I was either able to listen to him, fall what seemed to be asleep (But the hypnotist assured me it wasn't) or listen to some background music. The whole process took around an hour and a half. One half hour in assessing my smoking habit, the next hour being the hypnotic process, which was quite pleasurable.
I have no hesitation in recommending Michael Anthony Hurley to any person wishing to stop smoking. I have recommended a number of my friends all of whom to date have also been able to stop smoking and are quite grateful to both Michael Anthony."

Finished with smoking after 41 years
I have smoked cigarettes since I was 14 years old. I am now 55. Out of that 41 years of smoking I smoked at least 2 packs a day for at least 30 of those years. I am now a non-smoker because of you. Period. I do not smoke. Why? Because I am a non-smoker. That is what you gave me. I am a cynical, type A, male, glass is half empty kind of person, I never would have believed I would be a non-smoker but I am. This was an extraordinary experience for me in my life as well. I feel great about myself and my family couldn’t be prouder.
Thank you very much Mari Lifrieri,
Warm Regards, Ric Aliberte
Conquered Smoking
I started smoking as a senior in high school. It is one of those decisions that you look back on and yell at yourself, "what was I thinking?" I started for all the wrong reasons (as if there are any right ones): I wanted to fit in, to look cool, to imitate my older brother. Deep down, I assumed that I would be stronger than the nicotine addiction, or maybe I would be that rare individual who could quit at any time.
Nevertheless, addiction showed me whose boss, and I quickly became enslaved by my own urges. Smoking taught me a lot about my own inner weakness. It broke away much of my high school innocence. My conscious self couldn't understand how I could hate an act, and then perform that action twenty to thirty times a day. This sent me into a whirlwind of self hate; if you don't have enough will power to stop something you know to be wrong, then how strong can your character truly be? At least, this is what I told myself.
It took me nearly three years to admit that I simply could not do it on my own. My father was hypnotized not to smoke, when he was my age, so I figured. if it worked for him...then it could work for me. Friends were fast to disagree with me: "hypnotism is a lot of nonsense" they told me, but I figured I would give it a shot.
When I got there, it was a comfortable and non-obtrusive atmosphere (very important for a stressed smoker). I assumed that hypnosis would be someone conking me out for a few hours and me waking up, for better or worse, in some trance that was now programmed into me. In reality, it's more like a thinking exercise, and a relaxing one to boot! After it was over, I felt so great that I had to go jogging. I'm not talking about a little run in cool weather; I'm talking about a trek through Las Vegas Summer heat. I just felt so energized.
And yes, it has been more than two months since the event, and it definitely worked! I recommend this treatment for anyone who thinks they aren't strong enough to quit, because hypnosis proves that it is a matter of brain over matter. I am so thankful, because now I have taken back my innocence: no mountain is too high to climb, no habit is too hard to break, and no dream is impossible to achieve.
